About me
Zachary co-directs the Northern New Mexico Math Teacher Leader Network (MTLN), an association of math teacher leaders and their principals and LANL’s Math and Science Academy designed to facilitate and strengthen high quality mathematics teaching and learning in elementary and middle schools in northern New Mexico. The MTLN engages teachers and school leaders across districts to: (1) strengthen teacher and principal content knowledge and knowledge of NCTM’s 8 Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices, (2) build continuous improvement systems within schools and districts, (3) develop a vibrant and sustainable network where members share experiences and best practices across schools and districts and contribute to the profession of education in Northern NM. Alongside his job at LANL, Dr. Leonard has worked as an adjunct instructor teaching educational leadership and math and science methods courses. Prior to joining LANL he taught 6-12 grades in NM and internationally, and worked as an engineering consultant. He holds a Doctorate in education from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s Degree in science teaching from New Mexico Tech, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland.
