About me
I began my teaching career as adjunct-faculty teaching math and science courses at the community college for two years. I then taught math and science for six years at a Title I middle school, followed by six years as a 3rd - 7th grade teacher in a private Montessori school. All along, what I enjoyed most was creating, developing and sharing innovative ways to explain, describe or otherwise simplify complex concepts or skills. During this time, the idea and prototypes for The Square Abacus, as well as the 4-D format and variations were developed. I have since used these from 3rd graders through juniors. I have been at The Santa Fe Indian School for the past 4 years as the HS Health & Medical Careers Instructor and Department Head. I teach a Medical Math course during our Summer Academy, and integrate math skills/practices into all my courses.
Before teaching, I worked in horticulture research, extension, and education, as well as retail nurseries. I live in Santa Fe with my wife, 2 boys, 2 cats, and 2 dogs. We enjoy the outdoors - hiking, biking and yardening throughout the 4 seasons, 4 directions, and 4 elements.
