About me
Hey y'all! After a 15 year stint as a software engineer, I switched to teaching high school math in 2003. Across TX, KS, and NM, I have seen some stuff! This past year, while teaching 9th Algebra 1 (with significant learning gaps on top of COVID), I learned about EduProtocols and experienced success with them. I want to share what I learned at #GrowSummit2021 and invite you to try them out!
I am also interested in and currently studying:
- trauma-informed education intersected with poverty, racism, equity and re-framing
- science fiction and fantasy because Star Wars and Lord of the Rings is the best!
- empowering BIPOC in STEM studies - especially young women
- how to be a kickin' grandma!
- mentoring with new teachers as they learn and hone their craft
- developing a different martial arts practice that honors my older body
- anything math because MATH IS LIFE!
- hiking all the trails in New Mexico
- shifting the narrative of "I can't do math"
